Me, I've got lots of energy so I'm zooming off. Thank heavens I'm the only who really got lost: no one around. Today I step foot on the Camino at 8:20 more than an hour ahead of most departures. I will leave today earlier than most other days. Turns out my minimal preparation for the Camino de Santiago was terrible. But still, 25 days to 5 weeks of walking every day with a backpack, sleeping in a tent, navigating by GPS, and finding food and water along the way is going to be a challenge. Well, the sign was obviously telling us to take this new track so off we went. One of our friends just finished walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain yesterday, and reading her account of the weeks of walking and reflecting has made me even more excited for this challenge. Journey with her along to repeat things for me. Australia ain't cutting it for me just now. If we were indeed lost, at least I had someone to talk to and help me get back on track. My position is this: I find the political and social climate here flaccid. Rebecca Gallo is walking the 480-mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago despite, or maybe because of, the doubts she has about faith. I'm not the best at believing him the first time — or the fifth.
